Election Calendar 2009

JANUARY

9th - (5:00 P.M.) Campaign Finance Report: Periodic report (10/01/08 through 12/31/08) due for judicial candidates and judicial committees only.

26th - (5:00 P.M.) Qualifying Deadline: Deadline for Municipal Separate School District Trustee

30th - (5:00 P.M.) Campaign Finance Report: Annual report (01/01/08 through 12/31/08) due for all candidates and all political committees that have not terminated their reporting obligations.

MARCH

6th - (5:00 P.M.) Qualifying Deadline: Deadline to file qualifying fee and statement of intent (or petition, if qualifying as an independent candidate) with the Municipal Clerk.

7th - ELECTION DAY: School board trustee positions.

20th - Statement of Economic Interest: File with Mississippi Ethics Commission. Non-incumbents must file within 15 days after qualifying. Incumbents must file a statement on or before May 1st.

21th - Absentee ballots: Municipalities which conduct party primaries have absentee ballots for the primary available on and after March 21th. Absentee ballots for the general election in such municipalities must be prepared as soon as possible after party nominees are determined, but not before May 5th.

21th - RUNOFF ELECTION: School board trustee positions.

30th - Voter Registration: Municipal Clerk's offices remain open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day from March 30th until April 3rd for voter registration.

APRIL

4nd - (NOON) Voter Registration Deadline: Municipal Clerk's office open until noon.

20th - Absentee ballots: Municipalities which do not conduct party primaries have absentee ballots for the general election prepared and available on and after April 20th, if the municipal clerk's office is normally not open on Saturdays. If the clerk's office is normally open on Saturdays, then absentee ballots for the general election are prepared and available on and after April 18th.

25th - (NOON) Absentee ballots: Municipal Clerk's office open until noon for absentee voting if a primary is being held.

27th - Voter Registration: Municipal Clerk's offices may remain open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day from today April 27th until May 1st for voter registration.

28th - Campaign Finance Report: Pre-Primary election campaign finance report due at Municipal Clerk's office.

MAY

1st - Statement of Economic Interest: Deadline for incumbents to file with the Mississippi Ethics Commission.

2nd - Municipal Clerk's office open until noon.

2nd - (NOON) Voter Registration: Deadline for General Election. Municipal Clerk's office is open until noon for voter registration (and absentee voting, if a runoff is being held).

4th - (5 p.m.) Absentee Ballots: Deadline for receipt of mailed absentee ballots by the Municipal Clerk in order to be counted for Primary Election.

5th - PRIMARY ELECTION

12th - Campaign Finance Report: Pre-runoff election reports due; Runoff candidates only.

16th - (NOON) Absentee Ballots: Deadline for casting absentee ballots for second primary election in Municipal Clerk's office. Municipal Clerk's office open until noon, if a runoff is being held.

18th - (5:00 P.M.) Absentee Ballots: Deadline for receipt of mailed absentee ballots by the Municipal Clerk in order to be counted for second primary election.

19th - RUNOFF ELECTION

23rd - Absentee Ballots: Municipal Clerk's office open until noon for absentee voting.

26th - Campaign Finance Report: Pre-General election Campaign finance report due.

30th - (NOON) Absentee Ballots: Deadline for casting absentee ballots for general election in Municipal Clerk's office. Municipal Clerk's office open until noon.

JUNE

1st - (5:00 P.M.) Absentee Ballots: Deadline for receipt of mailed absentee ballots by the Municipal Clerk in order to be counted for general election.

2nd - GENERAL ELECTION

JULY

6th - Municipal officers terms begin.

AUGUST

5th - Qualifying Period: First day of qualifying for Consolidated/Consolidated Line School District Trustees.

SEPTEMBER

4th - (5:00 P.M.) Deadline for Consolidated/Consolidated Line: School District Trustees and Regular Special Election.

NOVEMBER

3rd - SPECIAL ELECTION DAY: School board trustee elections in some counties

24th - RUNOFF ELECTION: School board trustee elections in some counties
